The impetus and guiding force behind the film ‘Rock N’ Rolled’ was my frustration with the bleak, unrelenting seriousness of so many recent independent films, which has made my weekly pilgrimage to the art house theater feel more like an exercise in self-flagellation than an evening of soul-nourishing entertainment.

 

My ambition for ‘Rock N’ Rolled’ was to make something funny, provocative, and music-driven, that leaves audiences thoroughly satisfied, yet still craving more: the equivalent of cinematic cocaine.

 

I want audiences to laugh, cringe, bop their heads, and shake their moneymakers as they traverse the realm of world-renowned rockstar Desiree Hart, and discover that through all the glitz and glamour, all the utter absurdities of super-stardom, a music legend’s problems are not so different from yours and mine.

 

Set in the upper echelons of the Entertainment Industrial Complex, at its heart ‘Rock N’ Rolled’ is a social satire about the price of artistic ambition, the complexities of modern romance, and the resilience of strained family bonds. 

 

Some people consider the term ‘crowd-pleaser’ code for something less than art. I say give audiences what they want. Meet them where they are, challenge them to follow you down the rabbit hole, and then reward them handsomely for their intrepidness.
